Parents are requested to send food and snacks from their home. On parents request nursery will provide food for the child. Fresh fruits and well cooked vegetables are advised to send with them. The children are never offered soft or fizzy drinks, sweets or crisps. In the event of a birthday party an exception will be made, though we ask parents to inform in advance of any treats being brought in, and only given to the children on parent approval at the end of the session.
Children are encouraged to join in all activities. In having fun children will undoubtedly get dirty and parents are asked to provide a spare change of clothing to be retained at the nursery for such events. We would advise parents not to send their children to the nursery in “special outfits” as they will get dirty and we would not want such clothing to inhibit play.
This can be an emotional time for both the child and parents. We have found from experience that a number of short settling periods during the previous month of a child starting can ease this situation. It is not unusual for a child to appear unhappy when initially being left alone, though once the parent leaves, the distress rarely lasts for more than a few hours. The excitement of their new surroundings and the other children quickly attracts their attention.
The nursery is required by regulations not to admit or retain children while they are ill and parents will be expected on these occasions to have alternative caring arrangements. This is to prevent cross infection with other children. If a child develops symptoms of illness rash, high temperature, vomiting, diarrhea etc while at the nursery, parents will be informed immediately to take care of the kid.
We have a policy of encouraging constructive and positive social behavior. Disapproval of unacceptable behavior will be shown consistently, in a positive manner. No child will be disciplined by smacking, shouting or through humiliation.
Parents are requested not to wear any jewels or other valuable things to the child. Nursery will not be responsible for any missing of their valuables.
The nursery staff who is looking after your child will complete on a daily basis a brief record of your child’s day, identifying the food they have had, nappies changed and sleep times. If parents would like additional information we will happily provide it. Please note this is for children under the age of 2 years.
Staff can administer prescribed medication, though only when parents have given doctor’s prescription and administration instructions are clearly marked with the your child’s name and address on the medication container.
